Options! I love it!
Could another option be off? That is, no lines evident.
In fact, it might be interesting to be able to select the conditions where something is displayed.
For example, in edit mode wires would be displayed, but not when running outside of edit mode. Operational modules could all have a display (on/off) input. With that option operational modules could be displayed or hidden programmatically. If the edit mode state was an object, then modules could be displayed or hidden with the edit mode state.
Another thing to consider would be different color wires for different data types and/or being able to assign a color value to a wire. This might make it easier to follow a complicated wiring scheme.
